Common Analytical Tests like Fourier Transform Infrared Analysis FTIR (ASTM E1252), Differential Scanning Calorimetry DSC(ASTM D3417, ASTM D3418, ASTM E1356, ISO 11357), Thermomechanical Analysis TMA (ASTM ASTM E831, ISO11359) and Thermogravametric Analysis TGA (ASTM E1131, ISO 11358) are expertly performed at Intertek Plastics Technology Laboratories. But in addition, Intertek PTL also performs other common analytical plastic tests required by the plastics industry, including Karl Fischer Moisture Analysis (ASTM D6869, ISO 15512) and Ultraviolet Visible Spectrophotometry UV/VIS to name just a few. Analytical properties, in general, are properties that determine the compositional nature of materials. As an example, for material identification a Fourier Transform Infrared analysis FTIR (ASTM E1252) can show generically what type of material is present, while additional testing like Differential Scanning Calorimetry DSC (ASTM D3417, ASTM D3418, ASTM E1356, ISO 11357) can further help identify a material. Filler Content by Ash Content (ASTM D5630, ASTM D2585, ISO 3451) or Void Content by acid digestion (ASTM D2734) along with filler identification or Carbon Black Content Analysis (ASTM D1603) add to information on the polymer composition. In addition to the standard analytical tests at Intertek PTL, we also perform the many variations of these tests that the plastic industry requires, like determination of Heat of Fusion to quantify crystallinity and melting characteristics to determine Glass Transition Temperature and melting point.

While most analytical tests do not require test coupons, some do, and we have the ability for ASTM and ISO Sample Preparation by Injection Molding, along with CNC Machining and Compression Molding to assure that your ASTM and ISO samples are properly prepared.
