Standard Specification for Polyethylene Film and Sheeting
|
|
ASTM D2103
|
|
Scope:
This specification defines pertinent properties, test methods, parameters and sample preparation for the evaluation of polyethylene film and sheeting. Typically, different materials have unique requirements related to the generation of the specific properties. Following the requirements of this specification assures consistent characterization and valid comparisons of polyethylene film and sheeting. This method provides a means to call out plastic materials for use in the manufacture of parts based on the material composition and specific physical/mechanical properties. End users, engineers, sellers, and buyers of polyethylene film and sheeting would in turn utilize the callout to specify a material for their particular application.
Specimen Preparation:
Die-cutting of test specimens is required.
Conditioning:
Conditioning of specimens is outlined as 40+ hours at 23C/50%RH.
Test Methods:
Testing outlined by the specification includes Density (ASTM D1505, ASTM D792), Impact Strength (ASTM D1709), Coefficient of Friction (ASTM D1894), Haze (ASTM D1003), Thickness (ASTM D374), Yield (ASTM D4321), Blocking (ASTM D1893). Additional properties are also outlined by the specification.
Data:
Data is outlined by specifications called out by ASTM D2103. See individual methods for more information.
